Lulu Baker Trilogy by Fiona Dunbar

The trilogy, Lulu Baker by Fiona Dunbar. It is a series about cooking and magic. When Lulu's mother is dead and her father is dating ex-supermodel, Varaminta, her life is really problematic.
Varaminta and her son, Torquil, are truly horrible towards Lulu. However although Lulu and her father are close he does not know about the mistreatment of his daughter as every time she tries to tell him Varaminta always turns the situation to make Lulu look bad. Things start changing when Lulu finds a recipe book, actually when the book finds her. The book is apparently from her mother and contains magical recipes, from truth cookies to hush brownies. Throught out the trilogy Lulu must cook her way through 'battles' to fight off Varaminta and her evil plans. A TV series called Jinx was even done based on the books.
This review might be a bit biased as it is written by someone who loves reading mostly dark fantasy books (vampires anyone?). Overall this book can be described as cute. It is a bit predictable, but the again what book isn't predictable? I can not say it's one of my preferred books but it is great for when you want a light and not 'full-on' read. I found it good to read in the morning when I didn't want to analyze or think too much. It was an enjoyable book and I think its target is more for ages around 8-13 but I'm sure that anyone over that can still have a good read.
